The weird thing I did to rewire my brain 🧠

Hey Reader

My friend, it's been a while! How are you doing?

No, not the surface level "fine", "ok", "good"....but how are you feeling and what are you really going through?

These last few weeks have been a wild ride. Right? From the US elections right down to thinking about when to put up the Christmas lights. We've got over 6 weeks till we close off 2024, so let's do it in our usual blooming late but oh so effortlessly timeless style!

I did a THING a few weeks ago.

Remember how we always talk about trying new things?

Well, I finally took the plunge and tried sound bowl therapy. Yeah, you heard that right – this small-town girl from Eswatini (don't worry if you can't find it on a map) found herself surrounded by singing bowls! Let me tell you, it was weird... but in the most amazing way possible! 😂

Here's the thing: for ages, I'd scroll past those sound bowl posts thinking, "Maybe someday." But you know what? Someday is today, my friend!

So, picture this: me, lying on a massage table, surrounded by these mysterious bowls. As they started to "sing," I felt like I was floating in a sea of vibrations. It was like my whole body was getting a hug from the inside out! Now, I won't lie – there was a moment of panic when I realised there was no bathroom nearby (note to self: always pee before trying new things).

A bathroom is not always a given. I was having a mini panic about going to bless the therapist's backyard! 🙈

But here's what I learned:

  1. Those "what ifs" in our heads? They're usually way scarier than reality.
  2. Small steps can be as powerful as big leaps.
  3. Instead of worrying about what could go wrong, try asking, "What if it's wonderful?"

So, here's my challenge to you: What's that one thing you've been putting off?

Maybe it's time to give it a shot! Remember, even tiny steps count when they're in the right direction.

Want to hear more about my sound bowl adventure (and why trying new things creates 7,000 new connections in your brain?) Check out the full story on the blog!

🗝️ Learning new things is like giving your brain fun exercise! Just like a path appears in a field when people walk through it, your brain creates new connections when you try something different. Your brain gets excited by new experiences - it's like it's saying "Ooh, what's this?" Every time you learn or try something new, it's lighting up your brain in unique ways. This helps you think more creatively and remember things better. Pretty cool, right?

Reminder: We're not late to the party – we're right on time!

Bloom gently, courageously, and most importantly, bloom fully!

Hugs and good vibes,
Lisa Marie 🌸

P.S. I'd love to hear about your "someday" thing. Hit reply and let me know how you doing, what you're thinking of trying and any good TV shows you recommend!

P.S.S. Wanna have coffee?

Somewhere between seven and sorrow, we moved to Big Bend—a sugar mill town where the air smelled like ash and summer fizzed like Coca Cola. I must’ve been seven or eight. My parents had just divorced. My father worked at the Sugar Mill, and the village was filled with expats, heat, and a country club with tennis courts and a high school I was too young for. What I remember most is this:In June, they burned the sugar cane.Black snow would rain from the sky.Ash floating, weightless, like...

Windows reveal lush greenery and natural light.

I've been quiet here, but not because I've stopped writing. Truth is, I've needed a space that lets me move more slowly. Where the stories didn’t need to be polished—only honest.Where I could write from the raw edge of memory and meaning. That space is The Open Draft my new publication on Substack. It’s where I’m writing essays that live closer to the bone, mirroring the work I’m doing on my book. If you’ve ever felt alone in your healing journey, or longed to make sense of where you come...

I'm too old. How many times have you said that? How many dreams have you buried under that excuse? Maybe you've thought about switching careers, learning a new skill, or starting something completely different. But then the voice creeps in: You should have done this years ago. It's too late now. It's not. And I have proof. the real stories that say otherwise I've been collecting comments from people just like you. People who thought they were "too old" to start again—but did it anyway. They...
